heat all the areas till cherry red
dip in salt water brine
all the pin holes
all the rails
heat them up to a grey blue color
let them cool down naturally
then sand blast
clean and then clean again
Paint or Park
heat the metal until it is cherry red and loses its magnetism
then “quench” it–or dunk it–in a bucket of oil
At this point it is very hard, but very brittle.
heat it again until it is dull red
then let it cool down
This tempers it so that it is still hard, but no longer brittle.
